Drivers Training

Atlantic County Sheriff James McGettigan announced today the kickoff of a new driver training program. The event will be held on Wednesday, September 26, 2004 at 11 AM, at the Shoreview building on Shore Road in Northfield.  According to Sheriff James McGettigan, the program "Older Adults for Traffic Safety" or "O.A.T.S." is designed to give seniors a voice in traffic related matters. the Program also gives seniors the opportunity to attend a driver instruction program utilizing driver simulators. This instruction will enhance the driving skills of those who participate.  O.A.T.S. is funded by the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety.

In addition the Sheriff's Office will distribute to all municipal police departments a package  containing the Fatal Vision program. This program is aimed at preventing and reducing drinking and driving incidents. This program utilizes specially designed goggles that simulate the effects of alcohol on drivers. Sheriff McGettigan says this type of program will improve traffic safety throughout the county and well be beneficial to people of all ages  from high school students to our seniors.

The public is invited to attend the kickoff celebration and demonstration on that day.  Parking is located in the rear of the Shoreview building.
