Atlantic County Sheriff’s Office To Kick Off Bounty Program in Atlantic County February 10th

The Atlantic County Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with the South Jersey Traffic Safety Alliance will host a special kick off of the Bounty Program on Monday, February 10th, at 11AM at the Hamilton Township Rescue Squad on Rt. 50 in Mays Landing.

The Bounty Program has been established region wide by the Alliance to educate the public about the dangers of using old and used car seats and the proper destruction of those seats. In addition, the Alliance has identified organizations throughout the region where the public may drop off old and used seats for proper disposal.

Teresa Thomas, Program Coordinator for the Alliance said, “It is not only important to educate the public but to help them institute that knowledge and that is why we have established drop off locations.”

Identified as the Lead Agency in Atlantic County, the Atlantic County Sheriff’s Office will be responsible for collecting and destroying the seats. Atlantic County Sheriff James McGettigan said, “This program fits perfectly with the child safety seat checks my office has been doing for the past two years. During that time we have collected more than 25 seats that need to be destroyed and we are looking forward to doing that during this public event.”

On hand to destroy the seats will be the Hamilton Township Rescue Squad with their Jaws of Life. Anyone interested in disposing of their old or used seats for the event may do so at the Sheriff’s Office at 4997 Unami Blvd. Mays Landing or any of the participating organizations including Babies-R-Us in Consumer Square, Mays Landing; The Puerto Rican Action Committee at 1 South New York Avenue in Atlantic City and at Clayton Self Storage facilities in Egg Harbor Township, Galloway Township, and Hammonton. For further information contact the Atlantic County Sheriff’s Office, Community Affairs section at 609-909-7240 or 909-7241
